As a second-generation General Contractor my first exposure to construction came from my father, a historic renovation contractor and purveyor of antiques. This became the foundation of my historic construction knowledge.
I moved to Florida in the late 1990’s and began working in commercial construction. My journey continued to New Mexico as a general manager of a site and grading company, Atlanta working for a design & remodel firm and to Savannah as a manager for a Glass Company.
In 2018 I began working with Steven Bodek’s newly opened construction company. Working with Steven expanded my construction knowledge and in 2021 I earned my Ga General Contractor license for residential and light commercial construction and my SC General Contractor license for residential construction.
In 2022 I was offered the opportunity to build custom homes, something I had never done but wanted to try. With Steven’s blessing I left to pursue the custom home sector but and though I liked custom home building, I realized my true passion was remodeling and historic home renovation.
In July 2024 I founded A Field Construction. Steven agreed to forgo full retirement and join me as a consultant. Soon after my project load had increased and I added seasoned construction manager Shelley Boyce to oversee field operations.
What I have learned:
Construction requires passion and for historic renovation you better absolutely love it. It is not easy taking a decades or centuries old structure, retrofitting it with modern convenience and keeping historic integrity of the building. It’s a delicate balance.
Always try to surround yourself with people smarter than you. If you are the smartest person at the table, you are at the wrong table.
Operate with integrity. Be true to your word, own your successes with grace, learn from your mistakes and be thankful for the opportunity to experience it all.

I first began my business in New Jersey in 1989, offering general and decorative residential painting services. This led to larger scale restoration projects, including restoring paint, plaster, mural, and gold leaf in 33 churches.
By 1997 the company expanded to include construction services such as additions, kitchens and baths, and exterior restoration of Victorian homes.
For the last 10 years I have restored all aspects of Savannah homes, from Victorian through mid century, constructed additions, remodeled kitchens and baths, installed roofs, jacked up houses, and rebuilt rotted foundations.
Throughout it all I have learned that what we do is less science than art. Art isn’t perfect. A 150 year old home isn’t perfect. We endeavor to adapt new to old, old to old, and to enhance the appearance and functionality of home; to make it sturdier, prettier, more functional.
